Early Retirement

early retirementThis applies to the Levites: Men twenty-five years old or more shall come to take part in the work at the tent of meeting, but at the age of fifty, they must retire from their regular service and work no longer. They may assist their brothers in performing their duties at the tent of meeting, but they themselves must not do the work. Numbers 8:24-26

God prescribed the time for serving in the work of the tent of meeting to be limited to the age of fifty years old. Then the older men could be assistants to the younger priests. What a great way to pass the torch, share wisdom between generations and still honor those who were older. God showed care and respect for everyone involved in His service. I think the concept of retirement is not wearing plaid shorts, dark socks and complaining about the neighbor kids ruining your yard (Mr. Wilson from Dennis the Menace), but rather its simply doing more of what you are actually called by God to be and do!

In this season of my life in the role as a manager and leader, am I showing care and respect to those in my ministry?

God, how wonderful it is to be in Your service. I pray you extend my days and fruitfulness. Fifty years seems so young. My work is exactly what I want to be doing Lord, thank you for my calling.
