Competing Voices

What voice do I listen to?
Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
At the highest point along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand; beside the gate leading into the city, at the entrance, she cries aloud. Proverbs 8:1-3

In life there are always competing voices. The voice of God, wisdom, and righteousness are in one ear. The voice of evil, doing it my own way, etc. is in the other ear.

I love the fact that you can “look up” to see wisdom calling out. When I am in fix, I am to look up to God and then I will receive the answer. James reminded us that if any of us lack wisdom, let him humbly ask from God who gives liberally.

God, I am asking for wisdom for every area of my life: the relationships, the work, the recreation that I enjoy… all of it. I confess that I can’t figure it out on my own. And even when I think I have, Your ways are better, higher and more meaningful. I only want to hear your voice.
