But if you had known what this means, ‘I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,’ you would not have condemned the innocent.
Lord of the Sabbath. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.” Matthew 12:7-8
Jesus was confronted by the Pharisees who accused his disciples of unlawful behavior… they picked some grains to snack on as they walked through the fields. It would be like eating sunflower seeds as you went on a walk. The problem was that they did it on a Saturday. Jesus defended their action with the story of David (whom they all regarded highly). Then Jesus pulled rank. The Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath. He defines what is and is not lawful anyway.
Am I in sync with with what God really values… compassion, not sacrifice? I need to ponder that today.
God, would you reveal to me where any of my thoughts, feelings, or actions are out of step with what you desire? I certainly don’t want to be in a place where I begin to condemn the innocent. That’s why I want to stay close to you… for their is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.
