Circumcise yourselves to the Lord and remove the foreskins of your heart, men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem, or else My wrath will go forth like fire and burn with none to quench it, because of the evil of your deeds. Jeremiah 4:4
God offered to restore faithless Israel. They had committed spiritual harlotry by worshiping idols and disregarding the wonderful commands of God. God says that they are to be as distinct spiritually as they were physically (circumcision). This was a ‘take it, or leave it’ offer. If they refused, God’s judgement was sure to follow, hence ‘the unquenchable fire’. That fire was a result of their evil, not God’s lack of mercy.
Whoa! I worry about our idolatrous nation. I wonder, God is there compromise in my life? Am I worshiping false gods on every high hill?
Lord, I feel I am dedicated to You and You alone. As David sang “try me and see, if there’s any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting”. As this day begins, I confess that I have been angry about things I should merely bring before You in prayer. Forgive me. Now, I look for You and Your power to carry me through this day. I bless you for being so good. I am grateful.
