But, that I may not weary you any further, I beg you to grant us, by your kindness, a brief hearing. For we have found this man a real pest and a fellow who stirs up dissension among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes. Acts 24:4-5
The apparently great orator and lawyer named Tertullus made his case against the apostle Paul before Felix the Governor. Laughably, he wanted Paul punished for ‘being a real pest’. The gospel of Jesus Christ calls for radical life change and obedience to God. Many are offended and persecute or punish the messenger rather than accepting the message. That’s what is going on here.
Am I bold enough in carrying the message of Jesus so that people would brand me as ‘a real pest’? I hope so.
God, You know all things. You are the great miracle worker and provider and healer. Hear my prayers about Alyssa, school finances, personal needs and meet them with Your great love and power. Awesome. Let’s go take on the day!
