A Rather Strange Song

O daughter of Babylon, you devastated one,
How blessed will be the one who repays you with the recompense with which you have repaid us.
How blessed will be the one who seizes and dashes your little ones against the rock. Psalm 137:8-9

The Psalmist sings about throwing babies against a rock. What is a Christian to make of a song like this? The Psalms are unique in the Bible, inasmuch as they are more often, man speaking to God, as opposed to God speaking to man. This is just the case here. The Babylonians overtook Jerusalem with such force and brutality, that it left a seething hatred in the hearts of many.

How about me? How is my capacity to forgive? Has God so overflowed with forgiveness in my life that it spills out to others?

God, I am glad that I could shout to you my raw bare emotions and You would not change Your love for me. Yet, You have filled my heart with an overflow. May I never want to harm another in my thoughts, words or deeds.
