But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. 2 Peter 3:10-12
Christians share a particular world view. Its how God sees things. Peter concludes his second letter imploring us to think in this new and enlightened way. Part of that thinking is about Jesus return and how God will sum up the ages and judge the world. Peter says it will be faster than you think, it will surprise the scoffers, and be comprehensive (the heavens and earth). So what? Well, he say because of this we should live holy and godly lives anticipating the day.
Do I? Do I think and live this way? Yes, for the most part. Confession time… I do get a little tied up in the day to day affairs of this world, building this or that. I feel like my mind has been re-calibrated today to measure the things which are eternal.
God, let’s do something that will count for eternity today, together. Lead and guide me in my conversations with my kids to impart some encouragement or godly wisdom. I pray that those people whom you place in my path, that I might love them in Jesus name.
