Then came the day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover. Luke 22:7-8
The days of unleavened bread were in preparation of the remembrance of when the angel of death ‘passed over’ the houses of those who applied the blood to their doorposts, thus sparing the first born children. (described in the book of Exodus) During preparation, one was to search for all leaven within their house and remove it. During that time, they would eat only unleavened bread. Why? Leaven is a symbol of sin. The meaning is this- in my futile attempt to deal with sin on my own efforts, I will find frustration and failure leading to death. But, if I apply the blood of Christ (the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross) to my life and live for Him, I will eat unleavened bread (live a life of holiness) because the penalty of sin is paid for and the power of sin is now met with the power of the indwelling Spirit of God in my life.
How do I examine myself for sin? Do I invite God to make me aware on a moment by moment basis?
God, I am grateful that You have forgiven me of sin, You see me as righteous. May I walk that way by the power of Your Spirit. Please reveal to me any sin in word, thought and deed so that I might agree with You and be forgiven and forever changed. In doing so, I will apply the Passover blood to my house having searched for the leaven.
